the series STICK MICH is about withdrawing to maintain control over what you see and feel. the curtains function as a symbol: closed enough to avoid being watched, yet open enough to look outside yourself. It revolves around that duality — observing without being observed. closeness at a distance.
the embroidery hoop refers to domesticity and safety, but instead of embroidery it contains small, colored drawings on linen. Intimate, everyday scenes that feel familiar yet slightly unsettling. because when does looking quietly turn into voyeurism?
the series shows how the small, private, and seemingly safe can offer protection — but can also become restrictive. What first feels comforting can quickly turn limiting and suffocating.
today, we carry our “window to the outside world” in our pocket: a screen that is always open. but does this constant connection truly make us freer? or does it simply create a new form of distance and control?
STICK MICH moves precisely within this tension between withdrawal and sharing, between intimacy and observation.

AMINO POSTUREis a series of human figures—mostly female—captured in dance, interaction, or in poses that are both innocent and subtly suggestive. Through this series, I explore different ways of understanding the notion offlightorescape, while also reflecting on the resurgence of toxic masculinity that increasingly compels women—including myself—to move through the world with greater caution.
Animals serve as powerful symbols throughout the work, inspired in part by their symbolic roles in Lars von Trier's filmAntichrist: the hare, the deer, and the fox. The horse and the dog also appear in the series, representing the domesticated animal as a reflection of our own humanity.

Sophia Kirst's fine art paintings in ink on paper are known for their intricate detail and unusual use of lines. Her work often explores themes of nature in abstraction as well as emotion inbetween two figures or a group of figures.
If you’re looking to discuss or analyze a specific piece, consider aspects like her choice of color, the interplay between light and shadow, and how she uses negative space. Her ability to convey depth and movement with ink is truly captivating.
